Treaty One is situated on the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples.

Euro-Christian settlement of Canada has led to uncountable harms and atrocities against the Indigenous peoples. While the current Canadian identity is tied to kindness and hospitality (famous for saying "sorry"), there has been agregious systemic racism against our Indigenous siblings implicitly accepted for centuries.

One of the most agregious and high profile of these harms is the dark history of Residential Schools, but these issues are complex. The extent of the harm and prejudice involved is terrifying and disheartening.

As a settler on this land, I am committed to learning about my Indigenous neigbours, working towards reconciliation, and incorporating the wisdom of the Indigenous people living around me.

I have much to learn, and know that my knowledge and treatment of this issue may in many ways be inadequate. I appreciate patience as I wrestle personally with this complex issue, and welcome any suggestions or concerns with this page's content
